Mellish 1 st XV had their second league game of the season away to Market Rasen making a long journey to where it was literally had a game of two half's. After winning the toss Mellish chose to attack up hill. Market Rasen started fiercely pinning Mellish in their 22 for the first 10 mins of the game. Mellish defended well from the onslaught of attacks by the Market Rasen pack eventually creaked with the Rasen lock going over from the back of a maul spurring the Mellish pack into action.

From the resulting kick-off Mellish pinned the Rasen side into their 22 for the rest of the 1st half. After a series of lines-out & driving mauls, Mellish eventually breached the Rasen defence. A lineout was caught & drove over the line with Andy Fretwell getting on the score sheet to match his fellow props scoring exploits from the previous league game. The touchline conversation was successfully taken by Dave Mason to make the half-time score 7 – 5.

Mellish started the second half in a buoyant mood with the slope in their favour only for Rasen to come out all guns blazing. The Rasen pack had taken note of the Mellish's pack's tactics in the first half & decided to use the fly-half's big boot to pin Mellish back in their own half. The Rasen pack stepped up a gear and started to attack straight down the middle where their scored 2 well worked tries both of which were converted. Mellish woke up in the latter stages of the 2 nd half & started to attack Rasen only for some last ditch tackles stopping Mellish from scoring. Rasen scored in the last minute of the game to give Rasen a 26 – 7 win.

Mellish can take heart from their first half performance but must transform this into the second half for the next league outing against North Derbyshire . Mellish have previously enjoyed two cracking encounters last season against the men in black. Mellish also welcome back several players from injury this week to bolster their squad.
