Mellish once again had an away game and travelled north to East Retford . This was the strongest side to date and with an injury free squad the mood from the camp was buoyant. From the first blow of the whistle, the forwards showed their intent by taking the advantage upfront. The forwards gained valuable yards and began putting the home side under pressure. East Retford could not compete with the shear strength and determination of the pack and finally buckled under the strain allowing Aaron Myers to come crashing over the line to score his 1 st try of the season. Mason added to the scoreline by a successful conversion for a 7-0 lead.

From the restart, Mellish again drove the ball up the field were they remained steadfast in the 22 for a long period of time, with the home side defending well. A scrum was awarded in the 22 just short of the home sides try line when the ball was somehow lost by the back row. With the East Retford scrum, the ball was released back to the home side's fly half, who fortunately made a complete shambles of a clearance kick and with the ball stalling in the dead ball area, Wayne Gray took the opportunity to touch the ball down, giving Mellish a morale boosting 12-0 lead at half time.

Mellish scored yet again in the opening minutes of the second half thanks to a superb move by Kris Walden. Mellish won a scum with Ryan Lewis breaking off and driving forward, the ball was spun out wide to Sean McConnell who shipped the ball to Paul Linney with Sean looping round and regaining the ball. A successful long pass back to Kris burst onto the ball at pace and outstripped the home defence. Clark scored a further try on his debut league game for the 1 st team, being picked after his impressive cup game the previous week.

Mellish began their final onslaught in the latter stages of the second half, not allowing the impressive score line to slow them down, with the backs running riot with the quality of ball being won upfront. Aaron Myers scored a further 2 tries to complete his hat-trick, allowing Dave Mason to successfully convert both tries taking the score at the final whistle to 36-0.

After some disappointments in the last few weeks, Mellish can finally be proud of an outstanding team effort. This impressive win means the team can look forward to playing at their home ground at next weekends league game to Kesteven.

The 1 st team remained solid throughout the match, especially the backs with Paul Linney returning proving once again his vast experience and knowledge. Aaron Myers, Ryan Lewis and Wayne Gray all had an outstanding game. Again, for the second week running, young Chris Clark won the Man of the Match award. Chris has come into the 1 st team, showing character and determination especially in his defence and attacking play.
