Mellish entertained Castle Donnington in their last home league game welcoming back Paul Linney, Jonny Cocking, Ryan Lewis & Wayne Gray into the side which was nearly at full strength.

The toss was won & Mellish elected to receive the kick-off, the ball was caught cleanly & the big pack drove at the their opponents testing if Castle would pose much of threat upfront.

After a series of probing drives, the ball was released to their backs where the ball was passed straight down the line to left winger James Wheldon who outpaced his opposite winger to score in the corner.

This led to a further 3 scores by Bratley, Myers & Wheldon again. From the kick-off skipper Mason caught the ball & ran through a huge gap passing to his fellow second-row partner Greathead who surged forward passing back to Mason who then passed to Stu Morley who darted 40 yards to score only for the ref to blow the whistle for a forward pass which prevented what would have been an excellent score.

The resulting scrum was won against the head & McConnell switched the play to the blindside where Bratley ran into score only to be held up resulting in a 5 metre scrum.

The front five put the nudge on the scrum for Big welsh Ryan to score from a pick up & drive. The half-time score very much in Mellish’s favour at 42 – 3
.

The second-half started with a superb solo run from fullback Paul Crossley who glided under the posts for a great score. Scores came again through great back play resulting in McConnell & Crossley scoring.

Mason ran onto a great pass from Morley & through an outrageous dummy to create a gap & score under the posts. Paul Linney smashed his way through a would be tackler & ran 40 metres to score.

Big Andy Fretwell got himself on the score sheet much to the disappointment of Kris Walden as Frets has moved one try clear in the race for leading try scorer. Young Ross Pickering made his 1st team debut & set-up a try for Aaron Myers with his first touch.

Alex Bratley finished the scoring off with his 3rd try of the afternoon. In all 14 tries were scored with Mason adding 7 conversions in what was a very good team display which is probably the best game Mellish have played all season.

Every single member of team played well especially the four returning players. The back line played very well with Paul Crossley coming into the line from full-back causing all sorts of issues for Donnington.

The forwards did the hard yards very well & made several decent runs & interlinking play.
