Mellish RFC were formed in 1931, in memorial to the Mellish Grammar School old boys who died in the 1st World War.

The ground was first sited at Podder Lane on Plains Road, Mapperley Nottingham. We moved to our present purpose built ground in 1984, where we have a large clubhouse with excellent facilities. Two of our four pitches are floodlit, as is an additional Mini pitch/training area.

We currently field three senior teams, our 1st team being in the Midlands 4 East North league.

MELLISH MOVE

Mellish RFC are moving from Podder Lane to a new complex on Mapperley Plains in the biggest development in Nottinghamshire Rugby History.

An agreement has been reached with the city builders, Stanton Homes, to move to a 17 acre ground half a mile from Podder Lane. Apart from the new site, Standens are providing Mellish with a specially built clubhouse and changing rooms complex, four pitches, match floodlighting, a car park and a cricket square.

Although there will be no cash transaction to Mellish, the scheme is easily the biggest ever in local rugby. The previous biggest was Nottingham's £105,000 new clubhouse and squash courts at Beeston 6 years ago to mark the Green & Whites' Centenary.

Other major local rubgy developments in the last few years have seen Moderns, Paviors and Mansfield all acquire new grounds - but on a more modest basis - while Mellish themselves have spent £55,000 on improving Podder Lane facilities in recent times.
