Mellish welcomed back a Woody, Phil
Justice, Simon Bunton, Paul Crossley & skipper Dave Mason back
into the 1st team for the encounter against newly promoted Boston
who had played three & won three.
The game burst into life from the first
whistle with both packs hammering into each other trying to gain
supremency.
A series of bantering runs by the Mellish pack was thwarted by Boston
New Zealand prop who made several big hits on Mellish players.
A lack of concentration allowed Boston to draw first blood by slotting
over a 30 yard penalty. This spurred Mellish into life with good
forward play & interlinking with the back line which allowed
Kris Walden to score in the corner, skipper Mason
missing the conversion.
Another bit of smart play resulted in Mellish kicking a penalty
to touch & the pack secured good lineout ball then drove from
20 yards out against a napping Boston pack for Andy Fretwell
to score, Mason again missing the conversion.
Boston did finish the half by scoring to well worked tries for 13
– 10 half time lead.

The second half Mellish took the game to
Boston who defended extremely well only to concede a try after relentless
preasure from the Mellish pack which allowed Sam Harris
to be driven over the line, Kris Walden took over the kicking duties
& narrowly missed with the touch line conversion.
Mellish started to turn the screw upfront now & after a series of
driving mauls a scrum was awarded & Phil ‘Fossil’
Justice marked his return with a pick & drive from the
back of the scrum, Kris Walden added the conversion
making the score 22 – 13.
Boston came back into the scoring two penalties & a converted try
for a 25 – 22 scoreline with several minutes left.
Mellish went looking for the try needed to score to win the game with
Aaron Myers crashing over in the corner & Kris
Walden smashing over a touchline conversion resulting in a
hard fought 29 – 25 win for Mellish.
The result was justice to Mellish who dominated
upfront & scored some decent tries through the backs & forwards.
Young Joe Bexon & Alex Bratley both made several big tackles during
the game & both forwards & backs played well together for a
deserved mention.
Phil ‘Fossil’ Justice had an outstanding game as part of
of a dominate back-row ably assisted by Woody & Stu Morley.
The front-row of Frets, Simon Jones & Sam Harris had an outstanding
scrummaging game.
Man of the match this week goes to Woody for sound defensive game &
all round display. Credit also needs to go to Boston who came to Mellish
& made a real game of it, not to many sides will get a result against
the well drilled Boston side.
